Over $400 million in research grants are annually awarded to UF. The 2,000-acre campus employs more than 14,000 people, making it the largest employer in the county.

The county?s second-largest employer is Shands Hospital, with over 12,000 employees. Shands operates a facility dedicated to children and another for cancer patients. Shands is recognized as a top hospital by U.S. News and World Report.
