Ormond Beach is known as the "Birthplace of Speed".  It  was a popular spot for those who liked fast cars after the turn of the 20th century.  The hard-packed beach was ideal for going fast. That same beach had led to the development of a tourist resort by Henry Flagler. It later attracted Flagler's former business partner John D. Rockefeller, who had a winter home in Ormond.  

Today, Ormond Beach is home to almost 40,000 people. The largest sectors of the economy lie with retail and healthcare, but trade and manufacturing are important, with science and technology a growing part of the economy.  The Ormond Beach Airport Business Park and Airpark are within a free trade zone.

Ormond Beach is in East Central Florida. It's population as recorded in the 2010 Census was 38,137. Ormond Beach is approximately 29 miles from Deltona (population 85,182) and around 23 miles from Palm Coast (population 75,180).

The median age for residents of Ormond Beach is 50.7. Around 22.3% of Ormond Beach households include school aged children and 42.2% of households include individuals aged 65 years or over. Census records indicate 92.1% of the Ormond Beach population are White, 3.2% are Black or African American, .1% American Indian, 2.2% Asian and 1.4% are Two or more Races.
