Charlotte County is located in the southwest region of Florida, along with Lee and Collier County. The only incorporated municipality in Charlotte County is Punta Gorda. It used to be that phosphate was shipped down the Peace River to the city, but the railroad extension to Port Boca Grande headed off the need for that transit. Today, Punta Gorda?s economy is reliant on healthcare and tourism.
