Miami Beach is a resort city located on a series of barrier islands located between Biscayne Bay and the Atlantic Ocean.  The city's main economic driver is tourism and it has a population of approximately 88,000.  The city's origins lie in the 1870 purchase of the land by Henry and Charles Lum.  The land was purchased for 25 cents an acre and its development continued in the following decades with the planting of coconut, avocado, and various other fruit plantations.  Chartered in March 1915, Miami Beach became a city in 1917.

Miami Beach exists in four different zip codes 33139, 33140, and 33141.  The main three neighborhoods in Miami Beach are South Beach, Mid Beach, and North Beach.  South Beach covers most of the 33139 zip code, Mid-Beach exists in both 33140 and parts of 33139, and North beach covers both the 33140 and 33141 zip codes.
