The city is located northeast of Lake Dora and is a part of the Orlando-Kissimmee-Sanford Metropolitan Statistical Area.
Mount Dora gets its name from from Lake Dora, named for Ms. Dora Ann Drawdy, and was officially named Mount Dora because of its elevation of 184 feet above sea level. The city features both rural and urban areas, and is home to the Donnelly House, a historic home located on Donnelly Avenue.
