Minneola is a city in Lake County, Florida in East Central Florida. It's population as recorded in the 2010 Census was 9,403. Minneola is approximately 22 miles west of Orlando (population 238,300), 16 miles from Apopka (population 41,542) and east of Lake Minneola. The city is a part of the Orlando-Kissimmee-Sanford Metropolitan Statistical Area.
Much of the small town is rural, and it's status in the citrus industry has made it the namesake of the Minneola tangelo. The English translation of the town's name is "much water", named by American Indians native to the area because of it's many beautiful lakes. The late 19th century brought settlers to the town, like Henry Wilson, who planted a grove there in 1881, establishing it's place in the citrus industry.
