Tavares is a city in Lake County, Florida in East Central Florida. It's population as recorded in the 2010 Census was 13,951. Tavares is approximately 19 miles from The Villages (population 51,442) and around 15 miles from Apopka (population 41,542).

Part of the Orlando-Kissimmee-Sanford Metropolitan Statistical Area, the city is located south of Lake Eustis and East of Lake Harris. Tavares was named the seat of Lake County in 1887 and is now home to the Lake County Courthouse, Lake County Tax Collector & Property Appraiser, as well as other local-government-related facilities. Today the town is home to an emerging entertainment district, as well as being named "America's Seaplane City" because of the significance of seaplanes in the city's development.  In 2014 Tavares's median family income was about $36,000 a year.
