Jefferson County is located in northwest Florida, along with Bay, Santa Rosa, Escambia, Walton, Holmes, Jackson, Washington, Okaloosa, Calhoun, Liberty, Gulf, Franklin, Gadsden, Leon, and Wakulla counties. Jefferson County is Florida's easternmost county that borders both Georgia and the Gulf of Mexico. Over 14,000 people live in Jefferson County.

The largest industries by employment are trade, transportation, and utility; public administration; and construction. Major private sector employers are Brynwood Center, Simpson Nurseries, Crosslandings Health & Rehab Center, Jefferson County Kennel Club, and Farmers & Merchants Bank.
