Duval County is in the northeastern Florida region along with Baker, Clay, Nassau, Putnam, St John's, and Flagler counties. The current largest industries are trade, transportation, and utilities; professional and business services; and education and health services. Target industries for Duval County are advanced manufacturing, aviation and aerospace, finance and insurance services, headquarters, and information technology. Duval County is home to Jacksonville, one of Florida's largest cities. Jacksonville houses Naval Air Station Jacksonville, which brings many government jobs to the area. The University of North Florida is also located in Jacksonville.

Major private sector employers for Duval County are Baptist Health, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Florida, Mayo Clinic, Citi, and CSX. The largest public sector employers are Naval Air Station Jacksonville, Duval County Public Schools, Mayport Naval Station, and the City of Jacksonville.

Duval is a popular locale for business and corporate headquarters because it has a number of transportation links. Automobile highways include I-10, I-95, the I-295 Bypass, and numerous others. Not only does Jacksonville have major railroads, but CSX Railroad is headquartered in the city. The Port of Jacksonville is the third-busiest in the state, and Jacksonville International Airport is number seven among Florida airports. The city also has smaller airports to serve general aviation needs, including Jacksonville Executive at Craig Airport, Herlong Recreational Airport, and Cecil Airport. The county has a median income above the state median and an average lower cost of living, too.

Duval County?s historic location where the St. John?s River meets the Atlantic Ocean makes for prime waterfront. Tourists and residents can take advantage of the beaches and fishing as well as other maritime recreation, including kayaking, paddleboarding, and surfing. The area also offers arts & culture options in the form of museums, art galleries, the symphony, and theater. Jacksonville is also a world-class golf destination with dozens of courses.
